Recently named by Town and Country Magazine as one of the 30 Small Towns You Should Visit this Summer, Jim Thorpe is the perfect place to spend your Independence Day Weekend.

We’ve got concerts, fireworks, and lots of old fashioned fun!

Friday night, July 1, you can catch the legendary Yardbirds in concert at Penn’s Peak.

Saturday m20140705_095949orning, July 2 is the 11th annual Race Street Run, which benefits our neighbors at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church – the beautiful Gothic Church with Tiffany windows listed on the National Historic Register.

Take a train ride aboard the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway or have a picnic lunch at Mauch Chunk Lake park and then head over to Memorial Park, 101 E. 10th Street, on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Dolon-Jones-Martino American Legion Post 304 presents the annual Jim Thorpe Stay at Home Festival. Admission and parking are free to the event featuring a pie-eating contest, potato sack races, amusement rides, carnival games, live music and fireworks. Rain Date is Sunday, July 3.

Looking for a rocking way to spend the evening? The Mauch Chunk Opera House presents KICK – the INXS Experience on Saturday night. Showtime: 8 p.m. Tickets: $20.

Penn’s Peak features local favorites Becky and the Beasts at their Sunday, July 3 Deck Party. Take in the glorious panoramic view from the Penn’s Peak deck and dance along to some great music. 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. No cover.
